New DoD Strategy to Optimize Small Business Engagement

As you may know, in October 2019, the Department of Defense revised its Small Business Strategy.  DoD aims to leverage the might of the millions of entrepreneurs and small business owners across the nation to help secure our future.   Join us to learn about DoD’s goals and objectives to engage small business.  Our panel discussion will focus on tips for small businesses to find opportunities to work with DoD including management, educational and a sample of acquisition tools that could be used to achieve this strategy. 

Our speakers will help you understand the game plan for the Department to accomplish its mission by focusing on three strategic goals: 1) creating and implementing a unified management structure across the Department’s small business workforce; 2) aligning the Department’s small business activities with the 2018 National Defense Strategy (NDS) and 3) supporting documents; and strengthening the DoD’s ability to support the warfighter and serve small businesses.  

The DoD Office of Small Business Programs will offer information about how the DoD will organize the department’s small business management to ensure small businesses remain an important part of contributing to our nation’s defense.  This structure will assist the Department in assessing priorities across stakeholders, identifying opportunities for enhancement, and leveraging the significant efforts of other departments and agencies that also focus on supporting small businesses. 

The discussion will include new small business training requirements for the acquisition workforce to educate new acquisition officials on the role small business perform and operate. Lastly, we’ll hear about small business programs available today in the DoD to leverage and tap into the innovation provided by companies. The overall strategy highlights how the Department is working to identify opportunities to improve its day-to-day support of small businesses, maximize the utility of each individual program, and replicate our most successful tactics across lines of effort.
